Many of the projects listed are in the planning stages and we are working with Bradley Stoke Town Council
and South Glos council to further enhance Jubilee Green. We are also working to identify potential grants
to fund our projects and will shortly be undertaking the grant application processes; we will keep you
updated on our progress.
The designer for the park Alison Brown is currently working on the Youth Space design. This will be
located between the rodeo board and the climbing pole. Alison has been working with the youth club
and others on the tree planting day where models were constructed on what they would like,

A design has been drawn up and it incorporates
the two totem poles that were carved at the community festival 2009 by the people of Bradley stoke.
The brief for this project issued by Bradley Stoke Town Council stipulated that following feedback from
the youth of Bradley stoke the youth area as a minimum should be a shelter with a roof and some side walls,
but not completely enclosed with generous seating. It went on to add that the “project should aim to be
much more than just a roof and a bit of seating. The ambition is to provide a structure that is really
successful on a social level and that works not just for teens, but for the whole community”.
The shelter is to be constructed in a way that the youth community of Bradley Stoke can get involved in its
construction not just the design. We will be bringing you more information on this once dates have been confirmed.
The project will cost approx £32,000 and we are hoping to raise the majority of the money by applying for a Biffaward
grant, we have submitted the grant application and will hear by January 2011 if we have been sucessful.
We, the friends group are looking to recruit teenagers directly onto our sub-committee to help organise building
events, fundraising and help shape future projects. We are keen not to guess what people want but to get ideas
and help direct from you and not just for this project but for the future of the park.
Users of the park can be refused access to the Jubilee Centre to use the toilet facilities if the Jubilee Centre
is being used for private hire. At the September and November Bradley Stoke Town Council meeting we requested that a single
public toilet that has disabled access and baby change was added to the development plans for the Jubilee Centre.
We will continue to work with the council to find a resolution.
We are just starting a living "fence" project to combat the issue of dogs having free access to the park. To
ensure the fence is in keeping with the natural design of the park we are looking into making the fence out of
willow and where possible making it into a tunnel for the children to run through and play in. We are currently
looking into the suitability of willow for the site taking into account the soil, the time of year it can be
planted and the available space. When the project is completed we will then exclude dogs from the park.
Following feedback from the park users we are looking to add another piece of equipment to the park. We feel
that there is only one possible place that we could add another piece of equipment and that would be behind the
youth structure near the tennis court fence.
We feel that a ‘Flying Carpet’ would be a valuable addition to the park as it is possible for parents to physically
use it by sitting on it with pre-school children, older children will be able to use it independently and it will
also continue to encourage groups of children to use the equipment together. We have added the cost of
this equipment in with the grant application for the Youth Structure the combined project will cost approx £50,000.
In addition to the tunnel fence also being a piece of play equipment we are also exploring adding a willow maze to
the second mound of earth near Davis pond. This we feel will provide balance between actual pieces of play
equipment and landscaping that encourages active play as well as stimulating childrens imagination.
The original plans show a space for a community orchard. Bradley Stoke has an existing community orchard
that is in the nature reserve. Therefore we have
proposed to South Glos Council to change some of the ornamental tree planting in the park to orchard trees
and to make an avenue of orchard trees running along the path that leads to ‘owl bridge’. This will free
up some much needed space for our other proposed projects; a community garden and extra play space whilst
still incorporating this free community food source.
We have proposed adding a community garden to the Jubilee Green space, whilst this will not be an allotment,
it is hoped it will be an area where the community can grow vegetables and flowers together to the benefit of all ages.
Reasurch carried out by the University of Northumbria on behalf of the Federation of City Farms and Community
Gardens shows that community gardens provide;
- Important social opportunities that lead to lasting friendships and support networks.
- A focus for communities promoting inclusion, integration and acceptance.
- Young people with somewhere interesting to come to rather than hanging around on the streets.
These are only some of the benefits that they identified, for more information see the full report.
We are hoping to start planning the development of Davis pond in 2010 and we are hoping to commence the work 2011.
We are exploring adding sculptures and art instalations into the park to enrich it for all age groups. The ideas we have had
so far are; brass rubbing plates, a mural, carving the remaining bridges into animal shapes, encorperating a game into the park, a structure that introduces
shade, a hidden buried dinosaur skeleton in the sand. We are looking into these ideas and need to identify costs an ensure any additions are
enkeeping with the park.
The new green and park are located next to the
